I’m so glad that there are still great and compassionate people in this world that go out of their way to help others. If Irena had not been aware of her surroundings and stopped, who knows what would have happened to this lost child. It is obvious that he was looking for a safe place and he found it in this hero bus driver’s embrace. Everyone waits anxiously for authorities to arrive, but during that time the young boy falls asleep in Irena’s arms. One woman offers her jacket while the bus driver wraps him up in her arms.

The passengers are shocked at the sight of the child wearing just a onesie. Cameras on the bus and road capture Irena picking up the boy and bringing him back onto the bus. Authorities say he was less than a year old. This brave woman pulled the bus over and ran over to grab the baby. As soon as Irena saw the young boy outside in the below freezing temperature, she knew she needed to stop and help. This is the ninth lost or missing child who has been found by MCTS drivers in recent years.A barefoot toddler was running down the sidewalk on a highway overpass. Authorities eventually reunited the boy with his father. Police say the boy had been left outside by his mother who may have been suffering from a mental health crisis. The boy fell asleep in Ivic’s arms, MCTS said.įirefighters, police officers and transit security officers arrived at the scene soon thereafter. The boy was chilled after spending time outside in the freezing temperatures. She carried him to safety, bringing him to her bus.Ī passenger gave her coat to help keep the boy warm as Ivic called for help. Ivic stopped her bus and darted across the busy street to pick up the child, who was crying. The child, who was less than 1-year-old, was barefoot and wearing a onesie and diaper, according to MCTS. Ivic, who will be honored Thursday by Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele, spotted a boy alone on a freeway overpass near 4th and Mitchell. Irena Ivic has seen a lot during her career as a Milwaukee County Transit System driver, but she was shocked by what she witnessed about 8 a.m.
